To “knowtice” is to draw our attention and our intention to the beauty of the natural world around us.
When I am immersed in taking photographs with my phone, in particular macro photographs, I am lost in time and space, caught and suspended in the moments of beauty. We are surrounded by these moments every day – much of every day as tiny details of beauty can be found everywhere. Out in our wild world they are very easy to find. I love to celebrate and share these moments. I rediscovered my love of macro photography when I learned that there are new lenses available that work for the newer phones. I had wonderful lenses for my original SE iPhone when I first became a mobile photographer, but they don’t work with my newer phone with multiple lenses. A friend recently told me that they make them to work with the newer phones. I ordered Neewer macro lenses, telephoto lenses and a microscope lens. I was amazed by the quality of the images. It brought back the joy I experience when absorbed in taking photographs.

A few years ago, I contributed an article, Angles of Light, for Root and Stem, an educational STEAM publication produced by Ampere. In the article, I talk about the practice of photography as a mindfulness, mental wellness practice. Creating, immersed in the moment, searching for beauty, all contribute to helping me feel whole.

The article also talks about some of the mobile photography gear I use and apps that are helpful for editing photos and video.

I invite you to take some time to “knowtice” the beauty you can see around you.
