London Ontario Events: Fringe Festival 2018, is fast approaching! I love the boundary pushing, discipline fusing theatre offered by the Fringe. I haven’t quite managed a Wally yet, but each year I have had to buy an extra pass…someday perhaps I will make it all the way to the top! The Wally Pass is named in honour of Wally Duffield, a veteran Fringe Trouper who is famous for managing to get to all of the Fringe performances. The Wally Pass is good for 1 ticket for each show for ALL of the Fringe performances! Last year, even with the help of the Fringe app, it was difficult to schedule in all the shows I wanted to see.
This year, I am going to be part of the Fringe!! I am IN the Visual Fringe!!! This is the other most exciting of London Ontario Events! This is the Visual Arts part of the Fringe and is on the entire week of the Fringe Festival at the Arts Project. I will be showing a series of Fine Art Multimedia Animations. This series of short multimedia animations explores the theme, Reveries and Truths.
The Visual Fringe is based on 3 simple principles — the show is not juried, the artists have complete control over creating their exhibit and the artists keep 100% of sales. These are the same foundational principles of the Fringe theatre. I believe this artistic freedom is what makes the shows so exciting at the Fringe. Artists are free to experiment and play and the audience is invited to experiment and play along with them. Artistic freedom in a public sphere is a rare thing and one to be treasured!!!
I really enjoy living in this city. Other wonderful London Ontario Events include the LOAF, Home County Festival, Sunfest, and Wordsfest. We have a wonderfully active local arts scene which I documented in my interactive Touchcast video, Local Artists go Global. Below is the Youtube version, which is not interactive. The link above will take you to my Touchcast channel where the video is interactive. Clicking on the links that pop up during the video will take you out to this websites and then you can pop back in and continue the video. My wonderful friend, Jake Levesque, wrote and performs his beautiful song, Home.
